Mabey’s Moves for Hunger

Mabey’s Moving & Self Storage Companies have joined Atlas Van Lines, and hundreds of other relocation companies, in the Move for Hunger. We will be collecting unwanted, non-perishable food from those who are moving with us and delivering it to a local food bank.

Did you know 1-in-7 people in New York State live on an income that puts them at risk for hunger? Or that 33% of those in need are children?

Move for Hunger is creating one of the largest food collection programs that runs year round, across the country. We are extremely excited to be participating in this effort which benefits local people who are in need. On a daily basis, we see our customers disposing of perfectly good food because they simply do not want to transport it to their new location. When we heard of Move for Hunger, we knew it was a great cause that we had to be involved in!

For customers who are moving with us, we will be providing a box for them to fill any unwanted food items in. From there it will be transported to our warehouse and we will be making monthly donations to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, located in Latham. The food bank serves 23 counties in New York and in 2013 distributed 30.4 million pounds of food (yes, 30 MILLION POUNDS) throughout the area. In addition to collecting food from those who are moving with us, we are accepting donations at any of our five self-storage facilities. If you are interested in donating, or just learning more about Move for Hunger, please stop by Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm, or Saturday 9am – 1pm.

If you are unsure of what to donate, we are accepting canned good(fruits, vegetables, stews, soups, beans, tuna), pasta, sauce, baby food, flour, cereal, oatmeal, rice, peanut butter, and jellies. Other items such as toiletries(unopened toothpaste, shampoos, soaps, paper) and diapers are also gladly accepted!
